North Carolina Research Campus
Beyond a research center, the NC Research Campus is an economic driver creating close to 1,000 jobs and playing a critical role in the development of the city of Kannapolis and the Charlotte-area’s growing life science sector. NC Research Campus Founder David H. Murdock, CEO and owner of both Dole Foods and Castle & Cooke, Inc., partnered with the state of North Carolina and personally invested $650 million to develop the campus on the 350-acre site of a former textile mill. Murdock donated land to the city to build a municipal center on campus further reinforcing that the NC Research Campus is a center of science and community.
